CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING:
GROUP NAME: MEMBERS:
Catholic Social Teaching
Catholic social teaching Òis a rich treasure of wisdom
about how to build a just society and how to live holy lives amid the
challenges of the modern worldÓ (from
FINDING GOD: Following Jesus, p. 19).
The USCCB (United States Conference of Catholic
Bishops) have identified these seven areas of social concern:
Life and Dignity of the Human

Catholic social teaching tenet and design a class service project that shows
understanding of the issue at hand.
Research time
will be given in class and as homework assignment. Each group member will be
assigned a role/task and will be required to write a reflection paper each day
as part of their grade.
LIGHTS!

decide on a way to communicate, educate and ÒenlightenÓ audiences on their
assigned principle. The choices are as follows:
Billboard

persuade people to act.
Public Service Announcement

using movie editing software or PowerPoint with voice-over and imported video
(students will be responsible for learning movie editing software on their own)
that will be published as a link on the 7th grade class page
employs an effective slogan,
catch-phrase, and organization name that clearly expresses the ideas of the
assigned tenet
provides an opportunity for audience
to act on the issue at hand
produced with care and concern
including smooth editing and transitions
raw files (.mov

can be shown on any DVD player (component or computer).
ACTION!
The group will
design a class service project that will ÒactÓ on their assigned Catholic
social teaching principle. The project will be simple, but effective. The group
will outline the materials, time, resources, and schedule needed to complete
the project and describe the desired outcome.
This project may
be implemented during the summer and may count towards service hours.

their individual reflection papers, each group memberÕs points assessing their
collaborative efforts, and conduct and effort/participation grade as observed
by the teacher
